Professor Joffé is prepared to provide country of origin experts witness statements for Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morroco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. He is now retired but is still affiliated to the London Middle East Institute at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Until 2017, Professor Joffé was an affiliated lecturer at the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) in the University of Cambridge, where he also ran the Centre for North African Studies. From 2005 to 2010, he was a research fellow at the Centre of Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford. From 1997 to 2000, Professor Joffé was the deputy-director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London. He regularly addresses professional audiences at the NATO Defence College in Rome, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in Geneva, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and NOREF in Oslo and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. He has also advised the European Commission (DG Relex), EuropAid and the new External Action Service.

Dr Jerome Tubiana holds a PhD in African Studies and is a specialist on Sudan (in particular Darfur), Chad and the Horn of Africa. Over the past fifteen years he has conducted or participated in around twenty field research missions in northern and eastern Chad, western and South Sudan and eastern Niger, initially focusing on the Tubu and Beri peoples. Since 2004, Jerome has worked in Sudan and Chad as a research consultant for various NGOs as well as for the United States Institute of Peace, USAID, the African Union and the UN Security Council Panel on the Sudan. Jerome’s expertise lies in conflicts, causes of conflicts, armed movements and peace processes.

Lori Leonard is an International and Associate Professor in the department of Development Sociology at Cornell University. She has conducted field research and has written about FGM/C in Chad since 1993, with a focus on the practice in the south of the country and among the Sara. Her research looks, in particular, at the history of the procedures and their recent spread in some parts of the Moyen-Chari region. Her field research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (US), and she has published extensively on the topic.
