Sharmarke Dubow

Sharmarke Dubow is an accomplished leader and the first Black City Councilor in Victoria (Canada) in over 150 years. He has recently completed a Masters in Public Policy at the University of Oxford, and is currently undertaking further studies at their Refugee Studies Centre. With a background in public relations and business technology, Sharmarke has actively served on various regional committees and boards, advocating for organisations such as the Victoria Coalition for Survivors of Torture and the Canadian Council for Refugees. Recognized for his community leadership, he has received prestigious awards, including the Top Canadian Immigrants Award. Sharmarke’s personal experience as a refugee for over two decades informs his commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
