Professor Petersen is Professor of Anthropology and International Affairs at the City University of New York. He has engaged in research in the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) since the early 1970s. His work includes ethnographic research on social, economic, and political life in Micronesian villages and studies of Micronesian Constitutional Conventions, political status referendums and plebiscites, and the affairs of the FSM Congress. He has served as a member of the FSM’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. He has published many books and journal articles on nearly every aspect of Micronesia societies, cultures, politics, and history, including his overview of the region, Traditional Micronesian Societies.

Prof. Niki Alsford has extensive knowledge and experience working with Pacific Island nations. He is currently engaged in a longitudinal study of indigenous voices on climate change, and works closely with the Fijian community in the UK. He is Chair of the Austronesian Centre at the University of Central Lancashire and continues to work with the Council of Indigenous Peoples, Executive Yuan in Taiwan and the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines in Taipei.

 
Dr Sarah Smith is a medical anthropologist at the University of Guam. She has had extensive research in Micronesia, publishing on themes such as gendered experiences in the Micronesian diaspora, women’s groups, women’s health and reproduction, gender-based violence, neo-colonial influences, and transnationalism.
